Cashel

Cashel earns its spot in our catalog twice a year: fly season, when the Crusader mask leads our fly-protection sales, and trail season, when the saddle bag and Quiet Ride lines take over. We stock about 180 Cashel products year-round, shipped fast from US warehouses.

What riders ask us about Cashel

Standard or Long Nose Crusader? With ears or without? What actually fits in the horn saddle bag — will it hold two bottles and lunch? Do Quiet Ride masks work for trailering? How do I keep a pasture bully from pulling the mask off?

How to choose within the Cashel line

Crusader fly masks: Standard covers the eyes and jaw; Long Nose adds muzzle protection for pink-skinned and sun-sensitive horses; add ears for gnat-prone areas. The three-hole cap design is what the Crusader is known for — seated snug behind the jaw, it stays on horses that shed other masks. Sizing runs Weanling, Pony/Yearling, Arabian/Cob, Horse, Warmblood and Draft; fit to the build of the head, not the horse's height, and measure eye-to-eye over the forehead when you're between sizes.

Trail gear: the horn bags with insulated bottle holders are the popular pick — two water bottles plus lunch, without bouncing. Cantle and pommel bags stack with them for longer rides; check each bag's listed dimensions against what you actually carry. Quiet Ride: the ride-in version of the Crusader, built to be worn under or over a bridle for gnat-season trail miles and trailering.

FAQs

How do I size a Cashel Crusader fly mask?

Match to head build: Arabian/Cob for refined heads, Horse for most stock breeds, Warmblood/Draft for heavy heads. The cap should sit snug behind the jaw with the eye darts standing clear.

Standard or Long Nose?

Long Nose for pink muzzles, sunburn-prone faces, or heavy fly pressure; Standard for everyone else — it's cooler and harder to snag.

Will the Crusader stay on in turnout?

Its cap fit is designed for exactly that. If a pasture-mate pulls masks, the ears version fitted snug resists best.

Can you ride in a fly mask?

In the Quiet Ride models, yes — that's what they're for, including over a bridle.

How do I wash a Crusader?

Hose or hand-wash with mild soap and air dry; avoid machine drying, which distorts the mesh.

Do Crusader masks help with sun sensitivity?

The mesh shades the eyes, which is why Crusaders are a common pick for light-sensitive and pink-skinned horses; the Long Nose version extends that cover down the muzzle, where sunburn usually shows first.
