Weaver

Weaver Leather is the workhorse brand of our catalog — over 850 items in stock, from triple-ply nylon halters and brass-hardware lead ropes to latigos, off billets, roping gear and stable supplies. In-stock items ship fast from US warehouses, and everything carries our 365-day guarantee.

What riders ask us about Weaver

The common ones: Which halter holds up to daily turnout? Is a breakaway leather crown worth it? What's the right lead rope weight for groundwork versus trailer ties? Which replacement latigo lasts? Do the nylon colors fade?

How to choose within the Weaver line

Halters: the triple-ply nylon with solid brass hardware is the daily driver — three layers of webbing and quality hardware are what separate it from bargain two-ply halters. For turnout, add a breakaway leather crown: if the halter catches on something, the crown gives way instead of the horse. Weaver also runs one of the widest color ranges in tack — lavender, hurricane blue and classic burgundy are perennial favorites.

Leads: heavier 5/8" poly ropes give better feedback for groundwork; lighter cotton suits everyday leading and is kinder on bare hands. Match the snap to the job — bull snaps for strength, lighter brass for everyday. Saddle hardware: replace latigos and off billets as a pair and match width to your cinch buckle — most western saddles take 1¾". Harness leather latigos break in quickly and wear well; keep them oiled and inspect at every ride. Roping and stable: see the dedicated Roping and Stable collections for the deep cuts.

What this page is not for

Weaver doesn't make the bits or saddle pads we'd lead with — our Bits & Curbs and Saddle Pads collections cover those categories brand-by-brand.

FAQs

What size Weaver halter does my horse need?

"Average" fits most 800–1,100 lb horses. Go "Large" for warmbloods and draft crosses, "Small"/"Yearling" for ponies and young stock. Adjustable-chin models cover in-between heads.

Nylon or leather halter?

Nylon for strength and price; leather, or nylon with a breakaway crown, any time the horse is unattended — it fails safely if the halter catches.

How often should latigos be replaced?

Inspect at every ride and replace at the first crack or stretched holes. Regular oiling extends the life considerably.

Do Weaver nylon colors fade?

The triple-ply nylon holds color well in normal use; expect gradual fading only with long-term full-sun turnout.

Can I match a halter and lead?

Yes — most Weaver halter colors have a matching lead rope; check the color name on both product pages.

What lead rope length do I need?

Ten feet covers everyday leading; go 12–15 feet for groundwork so there's slack to work with; and never tie to a trailer with more rope than the job needs — many riders keep a dedicated short lead for hauling.
