Q: Will a different cinch actually stop girth galls?

Often, but not always. Ventilation, contouring and a clean cinch solve a good share of cases. If galling continues after switching, the cause is usually saddle fit, a cinch too narrow for the horse, or a forward girth groove pulling the rigging out of position. This set rules out the cheap causes first.

Q: How do I measure for a western cinch?

Measure from the second hole on one side of your rigging, under the barrel, to the second hole on the other, and round to the nearest even inch. Most western horses land between 30" and 34". Between sizes, go up — the latigo takes up the difference.

Q: What is the difference between the tie strap and the off billet?

The tie strap goes on the near (left) side and is what you tie your cinch knot with. The off billet is the shorter strap on the right side that buckles straight to the cinch. You need both, and they wear out together.
