Professional's Choice Bob Avila Cambria Port Correction Western Bit - 1.75-2" Port

A Ported Correction Bit for Horses Ready to Move Up

Best for: Western riders looking for a ported correction bit from the Bob Avila collection for a horse that already understands leverage.

The Professional's Choice Bob Avila Cambria Port Correction Western Bit is a metal correction bit from the Bob Avila collection, with a 1.75" to 2" port and a short shank. It suits Western riders who want a ported, correction-style mouthpiece on a moderate shank.

A port arches the mouthpiece to leave room for the tongue, and a correction mouthpiece is jointed beside the port so each side can move on its own. Paired with a short shank, that gives you leverage without the reach of a long-shank bit, which is why riders use this style for refining a horse in reining and other Western work.

Any leverage bit asks for soft, consistent hands. Fit it so it sits comfortably in the corners of the mouth, adjust the curb strap correctly, and give your horse a few rides to learn the feel before you ask for more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this bit right for a green horse?

A leverage correction bit like the Professional's Choice Bob Avila Cambria Port Correction Western Bit is usually a step up for a horse that already goes well in a snaffle. If your horse is just starting out, stay in a snaffle until they are steady and responsive.

Q: What does the port do?

The 1.75" to 2" port arches the mouthpiece so there is room for the tongue. That shifts where the horse feels the bit compared with a straight or mullen mouthpiece.

Q: How should it fit?

The bit should rest in the corners of the mouth without wrinkling them or hanging low, with the curb strap snug enough that the shanks engage before they swing too far back. Have your trainer check the fit the first time you use it.
